The ultimate Hindu pilgrimage site in Uttarakhand, Rishikesh, is also a major city for adventure sports in India. From white water rafting to visiting the temples, everything in Rishikesh is a tourist’s dream. Pack your bags for some kickass adventure because it is very accessible here.
HOW TO GO
After visiting Agra and nearby attractions in Delhi, book a cab to Rishikesh or rent a car. It takes about 6 hours to cross the 245 kilometers from Delhi to Rishikesh. There are also several train and bus connections to the city. The fastest way is to journey to the New Delhi Railway Station and board the Nanda Devi Express (train no. 12205).
Then after reaching Haridwar Junction, board the train no. 54481. Rishikesh is four stops down the line. It takes about 1 hour to reach Rishikesh from Haridwar Junction.
WHEN TO GO
The winter season is typically foggy. Tour companies frequently cancel their packages because of the intense fog conditions. Thus, from November to January you cannot enjoy adventure sports in Rishikesh. February through April have better conditions.
The flow of the Ganges is perfect for white water rafting. Plus, the monsoon season brings a turbulent flow to the water of the Ganges, for thrill lovers these months are a fantastic time to visit.
WHERE TO GO
Rishikesh is the Yoga Mecca of the world; it is here that the Char Dham (journey of four pilgrimages in India) starts. Plus, the sacred Ganges River flows from the foothills of the Himalayas through this area. Rishikesh does not lack any form of beauty – religious, natural, adventurous, or aesthetic. Swarg means Heaven in Hindi; the Swarg Ashram acts like a base camp for Yogis from around the world. But before you head there, take a holy bath at the Triveni Ghat.
A half an hour ride from Triveni, and you will arrive at the ashram. Another half an hour ride takes you to Ganga Valley Adventure where experts teach you trekking and white water rafting. Outbound Adventures also offers camping facilities. Book adventure tours online at a low price for, or risk getting cheated by guides.
