Maryland is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. The state got its name after the English queen Henrietta Maria of France. It is bordered by Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington D.C. in the southwest, by Pennsylvania in the north and by Delaware in the east. It is also partly washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the east.
Maryland was one of the 13 original states and the seventh state to ratify the Constitution of the United States. It also played a very important part in establishing Washington D.C., as the future capital of the United States was found on the land, donated by the state of Maryland. Now it is one of the smallest states in the USA, but one of the most densely populated. The state capital is Annapolis, but the largest city is Baltimore.
