Madrid has been the royal capital of Spanish settlement through centuries. It has got a distinct character which is to be admired. Through time, it has seen the erection of many historical monuments. These are a treat for tourists.

When to go

Madrid is a party hotspot. You can be up at 3 am and crash at any bar. The climate here can be excruciatingly hot during summers. That is why it is better for you to visit in months of mild temperatures like April , September, October. Due to the heat, the Spanish have developed the habit of siesta.

Where to go

While you are here, be ready to have a nap during afternoons. Barrio de las Letras has been home to famous Spanish writers. The literary history makes it interesting, but so do the historical buildings. You can stroll along the Santa Ana square and enjoy beer at a local pub.

You should go to Tribunal if you want to hear some music. Any pop fans can a ton of fun at the local music clubs. Gran Via is another area which is overflowing with naughty nightclubs. Lavapies is a multicultural area. Here you can find delicious Indian food, thrilling African music and American boutiques.

To top it off, the area is lined with artsy galleries which give it a hippie feel. Torre Europa, Salamanca, Moncloa and Ciudad Universitaria are regions where young students head to have a night of fun. La latina is a busy Sunday hangout for hip youngsters. You can also shop at the nearby El Rastro flea market. Chueca is the upscale area of Madrid and it has an LGBT community. It also has a bunch of quirky clothes shops in case you want to find a way to stand out in the crowd.

Conde Duque and Alonso Martinez are other options for musical and party avenues. Plaza Mayor is vibrant with tourists browsing the gorgeous shops, looking at the statue of Philip III and sipping coffee at trendy cafes. Puerta del Sol’s landmark building is the Royal post office opposite to statue of King Charles III.
